Environmental Management System
ISO 14001 is an international standard that provides a framework for organizations to create an effective environmental management system (EMS). It helps them manage their environmental responsibilities, improve environmental performance, reduce waste, and comply with regulations. The standard is suitable for all types and sizes of organizations and follows a cycle for continuous improvement
International Organization of Standardization. 9001-15
ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard that provides the requirements for a quality management system (QMS). It helps organizations consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements, and it aims to enhance customer satisfaction by improving processes and promoting continuous improvement. The standard is generic and applicable to any organization, regardless of size or industry.
Business Social Compliance Initiative
The "BSCI certification" refers to the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), a European-driven program for companies to improve working conditions in their global supply chains through social audits against a Code of Conduct. While often called a "certification," it's more accurately described as a standardized, audit-based improvement process with the goal of ensuring fair labor practices, health and safety, and management systems across various industries. The amfori BSCI audit process results in a rating (A-E) based on a company's performance against the code.
Higg Index
Higg Index "certification"refers to the process of having a third-party verifier assess and score a facility's self-assessment using tools like the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM). This verification process provides a standardized way for brands, retailers, and manufacturers to measure a facility's environmental and social performance, identify areas for improvement, and share verifiable results. While the self-assessment is a core part of the Higg Index, the verification by accredited bodies like SGS, GCL International, and TÜV SÜD adds a layer of credibility.
WARP
Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) is an independent, non-profit organization that certifies safe, lawful, humane, and ethical manufacturing around the world. It is the largest certification program for the sewn goods, apparel, footwear, and textile sectors.
CTPAT
The Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) is a voluntary program where U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) collaborates with the trade community to strengthen international supply chains and enhance U.S. border security. The program, which started in 2001, incentivizes participating companies to implement security measures throughout their supply chains.
Leather Working Group Gold
The Leather Working Group (LWG) is a multi-stakeholder, not-for-profit organization that certifies tanneries for responsible and sustainable leather production. A tannery receives a "Gold" rating, the highest level of certification, by achieving a score of 85% or higher on the LWG audit protocol.
